Sunset, Sahara. Planet Earth

Sunset, Sahara. Planet Earth

This photo was taken by the Shuttle team when it was over Sudan, near the Red Sea. Sahara is a great desert of North Africa that constitutes the western sector of the great band of arid lands that extend between the Atlantic Ocean, to the west, and the Red Sea, to the east.

This desert, the largest in the world, is about 1,610 km in the continent, from north to south, and has a width from east to west of 5,150 km. The total area of the Sahara exceeds 9.1 million square kilometers. Due to their geographical location, the sunsets are usually spectacular. In fact, the Sun is the great protagonist, sometimes too much, of the desert.
