Founded in 1882, the Pic du Midi d'Ossau observatory was one of the first astronomical complexes located at great heights.
It rises in the French Pyrenees, in Aquitaine, very close to the border with Spain, in the Pyrenees National Park. The observatory is 2,862 m. high and is directed by the University of Toulouse.
Here, the inventor of the Chronograph, Bernard Lyot, installed his instrument in 1930.
