Flocs

Flocs

These are characteristic details of the solar surface, not visible with a current telescope and with the spectroheliograph.

Observations of the chromosphere in very narrow wavelengths, corresponding to the hydrogen and calcium emissions, have revealed a true network formed by light and dark spots, which is thought to be due to incandescent gas flows subject to strong magnetic fields.

Clear flocs are predominantly composed of calcium; The dark ones of hydrogen.
